Facilities

La Fémis occupies the former Pathé studios in Paris’ Montmartre district, nearly 10,000 square metres of space, the largest section of which houses a complete film studio. The studio is fully kitted out with the essential filmmaking equipment and is constantly upgraded in keeping with the latest technological developments in the industry. It also houses a documentation centre for students.

Technical facilities

La Fémis is kitted out with state-of-the-art digital equipment. In addition to the funding awarded by the CNC, the School’s facilities are developed thanks to special partnerships with several equipment manufacturers in exchange for which the School carries out research for some of them.

The technical facilities include:

  • 4 film studios (each 250 sq.m.)
  • 3 screening rooms (170 seats, 63 seats, 20 seats) kitted out with 4k and 2k digital technology
  • 30 editing suites
  • 3 mixing suites
  • 2 calibration training stations
  • 1 recording studio
  • 1 production network
  • 1 carpentry workshop
  • 1 production design studio
  • 1 special effects training room
  • 2 equipment and maintenance stores: camera and sound store/lighting and machinery store
  • HD and digital cinema cameras
  • digital recorders and professional microphones

Documentation and Information Centre

Until 1992, La Fémis, formerly IDHEC, owned the largest collection of publications on French film. This was then donated in 1992 to the Bibliothèque du Film (BiFi) to make up the major part of its own collection, which was later expanded by collections from the Archives Françaises du Film and the Cinémathèque française. In 2007, the BiFi merged with the Cinémathèque française, which adopted its missions, collections and staff.

As a result, La Fémis is no longer in possession of these documents, which are still available to the public for consultation at the Cinémathèque française. However, the school did create a Documentation and Information Centre (DIC) for the exclusive use of students.
The DIC’s collection includes a library of 300 publications, 500 student dissertations, 12 periodicals and a film library holding some 1,900 titles (documentary films on DVD, feature films, experimental films and shorts, student films).
