Competitive Entrance Exams

La Fémis trains students in all aspects of the film industry, with courses of various durations depending on the department:
For the 7 General and International departments (Screenwriting – Directing – Camera – Editing – Sound – Décor – Production), courses are four-year long.
For the Script department, courses are three-year long.
For the Distribution-Exhibition department, courses are two-year long.
For the TV series’ development Department, courses are one-year long.
For La Résidence, courses are one-year long.
For the SACRe PhD Department, courses are three-year long.
For AIMS programme, courses are one-year long.

Terms of admission:
Registrations for 2021-2022 were open from December 15th, 2020, at noon until January 15th, 2021, at 10PM, and until January 29th at 10 PM for La Résidence competitive exam.

  • The General Entrance Exam (Screenwriting – Directing – Camera – Editing – Sound design – Production design – Production), the Script Entrance Exam, and the Distribution-Exhibition Entrance Exam are open to candidates from the 28 member countries of the European Union, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Andorra, Monaco, and Switzerland.
  • The International Entrance Exam (Screenwriting – Directing – Camera – Editing – Sound design – Production design – Production) is open to candidates from all other countries. Candidates with dual nationalities that include one of the countries in the preceding paragraph are required to undertake the General Entrance Exam.

Prerequisites:
Candidates must hold the equivalent of a baccalaureate and at least 2 years of tertiary studies (or equivalent) except for the Distribution-Exhibition Entrance Exam requiring at least 3 years of tertiary studies. For all entrance exams, candidates must be under the age of 27 on January 1st, 2021, or under the age of 30 on January 1st, 2021 if they can provide proof of at least 4 years’ of professional activity.
Proficiency in the French language is compulsory.
Candidates cannot sit one or more of the entrance examination more than 3 times.
Any breach to the competitive examinations’ rules (see Admission/How to apply), either regarding the information provided by the candidate during his/her registration, or during the entrance exams, immediately leads to his/her exclusion.

As part of the PSL Research University, La Fémis offers a practice-based arts PhD: the SACRe (Sciences, Arts, Creation, Research). This PhD brings together La Fémis, the National School of Fine Arts, the National School of Decorative Arts, the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris, and the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. Candidates can submit applications on La Fémis website: www.femis.fr.
Prerequisites:
Candidates must hold a Masters’ degree.
