The SACRe PhD program (PSL)

The five national art schools – the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique (CNSAD: national theatre conservatory), Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP: National Music and Dance Conservatory), École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs (EnsAD: National School of Decorative Arts), École nationale supérieure des métiers de l’image et du son (La Fémis: National School for Film), École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (Beaux-Arts : National School for Fine Arts) - and the École normale supérieure (ENS) dévelop shared research activities revolving around three axis : « the invention of forms: modalities and temporalities of creation », « Publishing: valorisation of artistic practice » and « Transmission and memory ».

These cooperations are structured thanks to a collaborative research laboratory created in 2014 and labelled as a host team by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2015 : the “Science, Art, Creation, Research” (SACRe) laboratory. It gathers SACRe doctoral students, researchers, art school teachers and associated researchers and artists – all engaged in transversal projects.

La Fémis research group

Doctoral students from La Fémis and from other SACRe associated art schools meet regularly to share their thoughts about cinema. These meetings allow students to approach some cinematographic questions from different angles and disciplines, including issues raised by members through their research work.
This group was initialy created to question the types of « fabulation » engaged in artistic practices, using as its starting point the way Gilles Deleuze defines this term in L’image-Temps. This group organized several SACRe doctoral seminar sessions between 2017 and 2020. The main topics of these sessions were fabulation and more generally narrative techniques and several notions used by doctoral students in their work.
During these three years of collaboration, the wish of this group was to create a collective publication about the « heroic » figure. One of the aims of this project is to give an account of the collaborative dynamics of this study group, to extend their thoughts on the ways of writing and of spreading knowledge, and to question the specific position of the artists-researchers. It will soon be published.

SACRe doctoral students research subjects

The work of SACRe doctoral students revolves around the production of one artistic project and one written thesis – both centering around/aproaching a single issue. You can find a detailed presentation of La Fémis SACRe doctoral students work here.
